We are aware of our responsibility in the worldwide procurement of our products. Since 2012, Balthasar Group has therefore been a member of Amfori BSCI, the Business Social Compliance Initiative. Together with more than 2000 members worldwide, we are actively committed to the continuous improvement of working conditions in the global supply chain.

It is important to us to analyse the social standards of our suppliers together with an experienced partner and to improve them if necessary. By becoming a member, we create greater transparency for our suppliers.

Three sustainable guarantees from AMFORI BSCI

  • Uniform testing body (auditing)
  • Training of participants and suppliers to ensure better implementation of the requirements.
  • Continuous dialogue with interest groups (government, trade unions, authorities etc.)

 

Code of Conduct – The foundation of the AMFORI BSCI programme

The Amfori BSCI Code of Conduct is based on the following internationally recognized guidelines:

  •  Conventions of the International Labor Organization (ILO)

  •  Universal United Nations Declarations of Human Rights

  •  UN Declaration on the Rights of the Child

  •  Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDWA)

  •  UN Global Compact

  •  OECD guidelines

It identifies the values and principles of Amfori BSCI. All participants strive to implement them in the best possible way and apply them in their working conditions and supply chains. Compliance is verified in writing by independent audits.

 

The eleven basic elements of the Code of Conduct

  •  Compliance with local laws

  •  Freedom of assembly and the right to collective bargaining

  • Prohibition of discrimination

  •  Compliance with the statutory minimum wages

  •  Compliance with legal working time regulations

  •  Ensuring health and safety at work

  •  Prohibition of child labour

  •  Prohibition of forced and compulsory labour and disciplinary measures

  •  Compliance with legal environmental and safety requirements

  •  Introduction of a management system to ensure a policy of social responsibility

Successfully FSC® certified

The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC®) stands for sustainable forest management around the globe. Only if the entire value chain of wood production meets the strict guidelines, products will receive the FSC® seal of approval. Independent bodies control compliance with the strict guidelines at all stages from the forest to the end product.

 

We have been successfully FSC® certified since 2016 and can thus make a contribution to the protection of our forests. Wherever possible, we use wood from FSC®-certified forests for our products.

Member of the European Candle Association

The European Candle Association (ECA) is a community of the largest and most renowned candle manufacturers with high quality in Europe. Its members together represent more than two thirds of European candle production and produce quality candles in eleven European countries.

 

The main objectives of the European Candle Association are in particular:

  • Preservation and further development of safety, health and environmental protection

  •   Securing and increasing the quality of candles

  •  Information about and cooperation in legal innovations and projects

  •  Identification of new raw materials and development of new technologies
